Mumbai: The Hotel and Restaurant Association of Western India
(HRAWI) has come-forth in support of the Hon’ble State Election Commissioner’s
(EC) office to increase the voter turnout for the upcoming State Elections to
be held on 21st February, 2017. The association has issued a letter
to all its restaurant and hotel members to offer discounts on food bills and
bookings made between the 21st and 23rd of February. To
avail the discount one only has to display their inked finger at the time of
billing. The move is aimed at increasing the turnout particularly in urban
areas, which as of now is below 55 per cent. The letter also advices members to
ensure that their staff members be educated about the importance of voting and
encourage them to go vote along with their family members on the day.
“Every vote counts and every voter
who turns out to vote reflects the health of democracy. The hotel industry has
come together to promote and to co-operate in the EC’s objective of increasing
the voter turnout on the 21st. We urge all the citizens to step out
and cast their votes and as a gesture of appreciation to those who do, hotels
and restaurants affiliated with us will offer them a discount on their bookings
and food bills,” says Mr Dilip Datwani, President, HRAWI. “Also, we have asked
our members to educate their staff and ensure that they too cast their votes
for a better and progressive India,” he concludes.
