Why do we need Aromatherapy? - by Amit Sarda, MD, Soulflower

Home matters: Why do we need Aromatherapy?

Amit Sarda, Managing Director, Soulflower
We are living life in a fast lane and stress is the byproduct of this lifestyle. As we continue to let our sedentary, tensed life dominate our existence, less is done in the space of wellness. Even as the grossly undervalued Indian wellness industry generates massive returns, the average Indian comes home and crashes to their bed with little or no energy left to relax and rejuvenate. Aromatherapy then becomes by far the best solution to our prevailing problem of stress.

Aromatherapy is about using essential oils for therapeutic, cosmetic and aromatic benefit where natural oils are extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots and other parts of plants to improve our psychological and physical well-being. It’s about the wellness of our mind, body, and soul. It’s about being happy. Are we happy? We are too busy to evaluate our life and our health-related decisions, living the life designed for us. We are stuck in a routine, and we are forever out of time without taking care of ourselves.

The foundation of Aromatherapy dates back to thousands of years where essential oils were used for the well being of our psychological and physical needs. It’s only in the late 20th century and into the 21st century that we have seen a revival of renewed interest in utilizing natural organic products for our benefits.

The air that we breathe today is toxic, which wasn’t the case a few years back. Ask your elders and they will agree pollution has increased at an alarming rate. This year Delhi suffered from terrible smog, which was worst till date.  According to Air Quality Index rating, it had 16 times the level considered safe by the Indian government. When it comes to pollution other metropolitan cities are not safe either. Imagine traveling for work in the terribly polluted area. Breathing toxic air can not only damage your lungs but also make you susceptible to depression. It then becomes important to use air purifiers which will become a necessity, and it already has become in some parts of our country. Using recommended essential oils can reduce the damage caused by the toxic polluted air in your body as the practice of aromatherapy is to create a stress-free environment of harmony and balance.

Aromatherapy has several advantages which include reducing anxiety, easing depression, boosting energy levels, improving healing process, eliminating headaches, improving cognitive performance, inducing sleep, strengthening the immune system, reducing pain, improving digestion, and increasing circulation.

For example Soulflower Jasmine has a relaxing aroma which proves to be calming and soothing nerves after a stressful day of work. Soulflower Ylang Ylang Essential Oil reduces anger, tension & nervousness and aids insomnia. It’s considered great for hair growth. Soulflower Lavender reduces anxiety and depression while also influences our emotional response and memories. These are just a few examples of the benefits aromatherapy provides which can improve the way you live.

Some tips on living the good life.
1.    You can live a life fueled by happiness by spending valuable time with your supportive friends and family. Share experiences together, and create memories with them which you can go back and be nostalgic about.
2.    Lead a simple healthy life by following a nutritious diet coupled with exercise. A healthy mind and body is a happy mind and body.
3.    You can stop worrying about what you cannot control. It’s wise to only worry only about what you can control where your efforts can be translated into positive results.
4.    Avoid chemical products & processed foods.

5.    Live passionately. You get one life, use it wisely. Do it with passion or don’t do it.

CARE WORLD TV TO REDEFINE WATCHING TV BY RIDING BIG ON OTT CONTENT

Niche Content Channels Find A New Broadcasting Haven In OTT Platforms

Mumbai: Care World TV, the largest healthcare satellite channel in Asia is now also one of the first to become available through a host of internet television broadcasting platforms. By embracing over-the-top content (OTT) which today is redefining the way audiences watch TV, Care World TV has put its viewers in the driving seat and has offered them to break away from the shackles of obligatory TV watching. As a niche content channel, Care World TV has found a new haven in broadcasting via the several OTT platforms presently available. This has led to viewers finding their favorite Care World content from wherever and whenever, rather than the channel scouting for its target audiences.

“Taking cue from our success in the United States where a majority of Care World TV USA audience accesses their favorite shows via the OTT platforms, we in India too have made the channel available through a host of these platforms. Apple TV, Roku and Yupp TV are some of the popular online content broadcasting platforms which are gradually making their way into Indian households. Television as a concept has radically changed in the last one decade and a growing set of niche audience’s interest is shaping the future of network programming,” says Mr. Ajit Gupta, Managing Director, Care World TV.

A recent survey suggests that YouTube, Netflix, and Facebook which did not exist a decade ago are the most accessed today for watching videos. 67 per cent of 18 to 49 year-olds admitted that watching a video today is very different from just a year ago.

“YouTube created a paradigm shift in the way content is delivered and watched. Today, it is the biggest platform for niche content providers and is most preferred by audiences because unlike TV it does not oblige viewers to watch what is being broadcasted but instead offers an option to watch what they choose. This has led to many small production houses mushrooming rapidly which create niche content and are successfully finding their own space. Daily Motion is another such audio-video streaming channel that lures niche content producers and Care World is available on this channel too,” adds Mr. Gupta.

Today, Care World TV is available via all of the major OTT platforms including its mobile app – Body Care. It has over three lakh subscribers on YouTube and is increasingly being viewed on Daily Motion. Its mobile app also has live streaming and is an interactive platform for patients to directly consult with medical practitioners.

“Niche content channels had to struggle to find space in the conventional mass channels that are available through cable and DTH. But the introduction and wide acceptance of OTT has changed this equation. Care World TV as a niche content channel that has been running shows dedicated to healthcare and wellness for the last nine years is today rediscovering an audience set that is approaching it because of their interest in it, as against it approaching audiences. We are affirmative that our viewers will appreciate our initiatives on making the channel accessible to them anywhere, anytime and such is the power of OTT,” concludes Mr. Gupta.

About Care World TV: CARE WORLD TV, Asia's only Satellite healthcare TV Channel, emerged as the need of the hour by fulfilling a vacant niche, has successfully completed nine years of disseminating health related information to the masses thus bridging the gap between the functionary and the beneficiary. Keeping in tune with the boom in the healthcare Industry with constant changes, in trends, development, research, the channel has introduced various innovative shows with exclusive content. The series is an all encapsulating Wellness diet regime that assures, if followed, will not only address the health quotient of an individual or family but also will make it equally interesting to the palate.

“Wellness is an everyday state of being and maintaining a well-balanced diet is the key to healthy living. ‘100 Days Diet Plan’ is designed to educate, clear misconceptions and most importantly bring a disciplined effort towards following a diet to attain wellness,” says Mr. Ajit Gupta, Managing Director, Care World TV.

“Today consumption of supplements, promoted by nutraceutical companies, is trending. Many may
not even know why they are consuming supplements and are unaware that the same constituents that go into its making can be consumed as simple, home-made food diets. The series is, hypothetically speaking, a hundred page menu card that will help one dish out everyday meals which will eliminate the need for consuming such supplements. Diets beginning with breakfast to addressing even night cravings will be prescribed by our panel of dietitians and nutritionists,” adds Mr. Gupta.

The TV channel has also leveled up its production facility to leave no stone unturned in presenting the show with world-class style. “To match the ideology of the show it is important to deliver it in contemporary style. We've taken efforts to build the studio to reflect its objective and audiences can enjoy viewing the same in 4K resolution,” says. Mr. Ashok Singh, Creative Head, Care World TV.
In the last 10 – 15 years, sales in the nutraceutical markets have seen an unprecedented spike. A couple years ago, the sale of supplements in this market stood at US $96 billion worldwide and is expected to show a CAGR between 6% - 7%.

“The diet industry is nearly a US $60 billion-a-year business globally and the Indian market is becoming a major player in this sector. The need for consumption of such processed, packaged diets stems from the need of wanting a healthy body for many in the urban populaces. Most people are concerned about their weight and may resort to dietary supplements that are available in the market. However, there is no such thing as ‘one size fits all’ in dieting and consuming such foods may prove futile in achieving the end result. Our series aims at completely eliminating the need for supplements intake and instead promotes indulging in a wholesome, nutritious, healthy diet as a habit,” concludes Mr. Gupta.
